TYTAN systems for water and wastewater networks
High-density polyethylene, abbreviated as PE-HD, is used to manufacture segmental pipes and fittings. It is a raw material that works well in many pipe applications. It is characterised by high resistance to impact loads that can occur at the pipe-laying stage and a wide range of operating temperatures that allow work to be carried out at any time of the year.
The subject of the presentation is PE 100 single-layer pipes and TYTAN PE/PE and TYTAN PE/PP single- and double-layer pipes made of polyethylene PE 100-RC and polypropylene (PP) intended for pressure (waterworks, gas), fuel, pressure and vacuum sewerage) and gravity (sanitary sewerage, drainage) applications, as well as making culverts under road embankments laid underground in the road lane.
The TYTAN system consists of:
- Type 1 (single layer) - Polyethylene PE 100, PE 100-RC
- Type 2/2 (two-layer) - PE 100-RC polyethylene pipes
- Type 2/3 (three-layer) - Polyethylene PE 100-RC pipes
- Type 3 (two-layer) - PE 100-RC polyethylene pipes with an additional outer protective layer of PP
- Type 3 PLUS (two-layer) - In addition to the protective layer as in the third type, it also has a detector insert that facilitates the maintenance of pipelines.
TYTAN pipe tests carried out at HESSEL Ingenieurtechnik GmbH and at the Oil and Gas Institute in Krakow confirm their resistance to the effects of scratches and point loads that can occur as a result of building the network on site without applying ballast and backfill and for building and renovating the network using traditional methods and excavation.
Pipe sections depending on diameter and purpose can be combined using the following methods:
- butt welding
- welding with electrofusion couplings
- connection with clamp fittings
Implementations
They are intended, among other things, for the construction of water supply networks, sewerage networks and for the transport of aggressive liquids.
- Transfer of water intended for human consumption.
- Transfer of water before its treatment.
- Water for other purposes.
- Pressurised rainwater and sanitary sewerage systems.
- Vacuum drainage systems.
Standards
- EN 12201-2+A1:2013-12 - Plastics piping systems for water supply, drainage and sewerage - Polyethylene (PE) - Part 2: Pipes
- EN 12201-3+A1:2013-05 - Plastics piping systems for water supply, drainage and sewerage - Polyethylene (PE) - Part 3: Fittings
Advantages of the TYTAN system for water and wastewater networks
- The high strength of the material ensures safe installation in all conditions.Polyethylene is characterised by high chemical resistance to most chemical compounds. The detection insert makes pipeline maintenance even easier.PE 100 RC polyethylene pipes are certified according to PAS 1075:2009-04 for alternative laying techniques.TYTAN PE/PE pipes can be joined by butt welding and electrofusion or with compression fittings.
- For connection to fittings or pipelines of other materials than PE, flange couplings, suitable mechanical couplings or PE/steel transition couplings can be used.
- Tytan pipe tests carried out at HESSEL Ingenieurtechnik GmbH and at the Oil and Gas Institute in Krakow confirm their resistance to the effects of scratches and point loads that can occur as a result of building the network on site without applying ballast and backfill and for building and renovating the network using traditional methods and excavation.PE pipes are supplied in the form of coils (circles) or straight sections palletised into bundles. When transporting and storing pipes and fittings, special care should be taken not to damage them. Pipes can be stored outdoors for a period of 12 months. If it is expected to be stored for a longer period of time, it is preferable to protect them from the influence of solar radiation (UV) by placing them under cover. It is necessary to ensure free air flow.
